Housing costs can make it harder for Iowans to find a new place to call their own. Homes for Iowa intends to address this challenge. During the next ten years, the organization plans to build more than 800 affordable homes in differing parts of the state.
“Iowa struggles to build moderately-priced new homes, especially in rural areas,” said Executive Director Rachelle Howe of Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission. “The demand is high, and the supply is low. Upper Explorerland completes housing assessments for each county every few years, so we have a good idea of what the needs are. The lack of moderately-priced homes is a problem.”
