Congressman Josh Harder stood in the middle of Carnegie Court Wednesday morning surrounded by City of Manteca officials as two homeless individuals were hunkered down in nearby cars.
They were showing Harder preliminary plans for a holistic approach to Manteca’s growing homeless problems that are predicated on the city acquiring 8.4 acres.

The City of Manteca is taking the lead in bringing back a San Joaquin County certified farmers’ market to downtown.
Dubbed “Market on Maple”, the Thursday night event will take place along the 100 block of Maple Avenue between Yosemite Avenue and Center Street starting May 6 and running weekly through Oct. 28. The parking lot next to the Rust Salon will also be blocked off for market use.
It is being coordinated by Deputy City Manager Toni Lundgren.

Manteca may have a solution for endless sidewalks around the community that have becoming tripping hazards due to tree roots pushing up concrete.
They may start forcing property owners to make repairs.
An ordinance addressing the maintenance and repair of sidewalks fronting public streets is before the City Council for consideration when they meet on Zoom on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The meeting will be livestreamed via the city’s website as well as on Comcast Channel 97.

Ripon, more than a decade ago, repelled the barbarians at the gate.
Walmart wanted to build a store a tad larger than Manteca’s in an almond orchard just north of the Flying J Travel Center.
Many Ripon residents saw it as an assault on their sense of community and lifestyle. If Walmart established a beachhead for big box retailers, the reasoning was downtown was doomed, growth would surge, traffic would explode, and crime would go up.
