Alabama to build fifth veterans home in Enterprise

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs received a $39 million federal grant to build a fifth veterans home for long-term care.
The new facility, which is estimated to cost a total of $60 million, will house about 175 veterans in Enterprise in southeast Alabama, according to a press release. Construction is expected to start in 2022 with the opening planned for 2023.
Alabama has four state veterans homes: Bill Nichols in Alexander City, Floyd E. “Tut” Fann in Huntsville, William F. Green in Bay Minette and Colonel Robert L. Howard in Pell City. State veterans home operate in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and typically provide lower cost care for eligible veterans who must apply for available beds. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also operates nursing homes in Tuscaloosa and Tuskegee.

A federal grant thanks to the U.S. Veterans Administration will soon allow Alabama to build its fifth veterans home.
According to officials with the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, the $39 million grant will cover 65 percent of the home’s construction cost. The remaining 35 percent will be covered by ADVA.
The estimated $60 million facility will provide long-term care to veterans in Alabama. It will be 182,000 square feet and house 175 residents. Once in full operation, it will provide jobs for more than 200 people.
Groundbreaking is set to take place later this year, with construction planned for early 2022.

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WSFA) - A grant from the U.S. Veterans Administration will give Alabama its fifth veterans home.
The State Board of Veterans Affairs Veterans Homes Committee announced a $39 million federal grant to build a new VA home in Enterprise.
Officials say the federal funds will cover 65% of the home’s construction costs. The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs will cover the remaining 35% of the estimated $60 million facility.
