Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau has officially moved into a “moderate” COVID 19 health risk
Deputy City Manager Mila Cosgrove, says cases are going down. Our trend line is moving steeply down and that is exactly what we want to do.
Over the past two weeks, cases have gone down by over 30. Overall yet we ve gone from 40ish cases down to ten today , she said.
Cosgrove warns that it’s still too early to say we avoided a surge from the holidays. At this point, it doesn t look like we got a bump from the holidays. We re probably about another week away from declaring victory over the holidays. So we ll be keeping an eye out on that.
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau is moving into Phase 1A Tier 3 of COVID-19 vaccinations beginning next week. This group includes healthcare workers who: are in direct contact with patients or infectious materials, cannot provide their service remotely or through telework, and cannot postpone their services.
So far, it’s shaping up that Juneau can vaccinate more people than the CBJ originally planned for.
“We are getting more vaccination for the current phase of the distribution than we originally thought and it sounds like it’s going to be at least double,” said Emergency Operations Planning Chief Robert Barr, at the COVID-19 Community Update on Facebook Live on Tuesday. “We don’t know the exact number.”
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ has so far seen less average daily cases of COVID-19 in December than they saw in October and November.
Deputy City Manager Mila Cosgrove said if we continue this trend it will help the effort to reopen schools next month.
She said Juneau is far from out of the woods, There is still quite a bit of community spread happening as well as travel related cases, she said.
The installation of a rapid testing machine at Bartlett Regional Hospital will reduce the turnaround times to get results back to just a day or two.
