Downtown parking amnesty program extended By Sheryl Roadcap - sroadcap@sidneydailynews.com SIDNEY The downtown parking amnesty program was extended through Dec. 31 by the Sidney City Council during its Monday evening teleconference meeting. A resolution was passed extending the suspension of the enforcement of violations of “designated two-hour free parking spaces” on streets within the nine-block area bordered by West Avenue, North Street, Miami Avenue and South Street. City Manager Mark Cundiff said the amnesty does not include the metered spaces in front of the Post Office or overnight parking in these on-street spaces. It extends the previous amnesty resolution passed on Aug. 24, 2020, that was set to expire on March 31.

2021 Sidney Waterpark rates adopted SIDNEY The 2021 Sidney Waterpark rates were established during the Sidney City Council Monday evening teleconference meeting. City Council adopted the resolution Sidney Parks and Recreation Director Duane Gaier presented on the waterpark fees. The Sidney Waterpark did not open in 2020, but council approved some rate increases before the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the city pool from opening. SwimSafe Management will run pool operations this year, and some rates were adjusted due to the new contract with the company. For 2021, the daily admission for preschool children is set at $4.50, up from $4 in 2019, and for adults, seniors and youth it will remain at $4.50. The individual-only season pass will cost $35, up from $34 in 2019. Replacement photo season passes will remain at $15. Training rentals will increase to $80 per hour, versus $15 per hour per guard as in the past. The two-hour pool rental will increase to $360, up from $300.

Council hears downtown development strategies SIDNEY Downtown development strategies were discussed during the Sidney City Council’s Monday evening hybrid-style teleconference meeting. Amy Breinich, Sidney Alive executive director, Jim Hill, executive director of the Sidney-Shelby Economic Partnership (SSEP), along with Barry Alberts, of CityVisions Associates, provided a presentation on downtown development strategies. Alberts has been working with SSEP and Sidney Alive to help strategize the vision for downtown. CityVisions, of Louisville, Kentucky, is a downtown developer/consultant that has previous worked on the riverfront development strategy in Piqua, Dayton and Springfield. Hill and Breinich gave an quick review for council members of goals and previous steps. Alberts then shared information on phase I plans for the downtown Sidney development strategic actions community partners are working on.

Council OKs rezoning request By Sheryl Roadcap - sroadcap@sidneydailynews.com SIDNEY The Sidney City Council approved a rezoning request of a 177.83 acre tract of land from a B-2, community business district and an I-2 light industry district, into five separate and distinct districts during Monday’s teleconference meeting. Council adopted the rezoning request of Choice One Engineering, on behalf of MSGA Development, for the rezoning of the property north of Russell Road and between Interstate 75 and St. Marys Avenue. The request was to increase the area zoned B-2, community business district, and to rezone the remaining area from I-2, general industrial, to R-3, multi-family residence district, and R-1, single family residence district. The property is currently wooded areas and crop farming, City Manager Mark Cundiff said.
