Quesnel City Council applies for funding for Gold Pan back drop

Quesnel City Council applies for funding for Gold Pan back drop SHARE ON: Proposed backdrop for Gold Pan (GHenderson-MyCariboonow-staff) Quesnel’s Gold Pan was once again an item on the agenda at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, this time the formal intention on how to pay for the back drop, some signage, landscaping and lighting. Even City Manager Byron Johnson made light of the situation, in making a recommendation… “Just because we can’t get enough I’m talking about the Gold Pan. Council had quite an extensive discussion as part of our capital plan process which was formally approved to do the Gold Pan project.  At that point in time staff said we would apply to NDIT for grant funding for 30 thousand dollars to help offset the cost of the work that we plan to do with the Gold Pan sign.”

Quesnel Council decision to relocate Sewer Line away from Baker Creek could be bad news for some residents

Quesnel Council decision to relocate Sewer Line away from Baker Creek could be bad news for some residents SHARE ON: Shed dangling on edge of Baker Creek bank (photo provided by City of Quesnel) It’s not what residents on a portion of Hutchcroft Street in Quesnel, who’s homes are being threatened by erosion along Baker Creek, wanted to hear. City Council has approved a staff recommendation to relocate the Sewer Mainline that was damaged or washed away during this spring’s freshet. Unfortunately, as City Manager Byron Johnson explained, that also has an impact on those residents… “It’s important to note that the city will not spend money on mitigative measures unless the city infrastructure is at imminent risk.    In this particular situation there is no city infrastructure remaining at imminent risk because the relocation of the mainline reduces that risk.”
