all right, one big heck of a party is still going on in the emerald city. an estimated 700,000 wow. very quiet fans packing the streets of seattle to celebrate the team s first super bowl victory. andy scholes watched it from afar and brings us the details in the bleacher report. hey, andy. hey, good morning, guys. the population of seattle is about 635,000. that means there are more people at this parade than live in the entire city. now, they didn t make yesterday a city holiday, but that didn t stop anyone from missing work or school. 25% of students skipped school while 565 teachers took a personal day. now, marshawn lynch was throwing his favorite candy, skittles, out to the crowd. and check this out. something catches his eye midway through the parade. it s a bottle of whiskey! lynch nearly falls off the float
now, despite that recommendation, the city never even considered changing the reference of good friday. and it is a city day off. a city holiday here in davenport so how did that how did that notice, that closure notice get out with the words spring holiday as opposed to good friday. well, it came out of the city administrator s office. so city administrator craig meeland says, well, because it came in my office, then it s my fault so he s taking blame for this. but it did get a life of its own thanks to those weekend reports about how the name apparently had been changed when, in fact, it had not. gretchen? very interesting report. steve, thanks very much. all right. 6 minutes after the top of the hour on this wednesday. later on today, the president of the united states is going to take the short trip down to andrews air force base and there he is going to announce he s opening up 160 million acres of ocean property that has been off-limits for years to off-shore drilling.
spring holiday. davenport police personnel reportedly did not like that reference for the day which is good friday. that led to this story in the quad city times noting a city government name change for good friday. myself and the rest of city council were blindsided by this. so were davenport residents. leave it alone. when is this going to stop? this is not right. why would you want to change that? the city s civil rights commission had a reason. last year, it sent a letter to the mayor, city council and city manager suggesting that calling a city holiday an observance of good friday in the commission s opinion violated the constitutionally required separation of church and state. we don t think the union contracts ought to be changed in any way but just call it something else to respect the diversity of the people of the city of davenport.
