RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) â The city of Rutland is now the owner of a former college athletic center after closing on the facility this week.
Voters authorized the $1.45 million bond for the building in November, about a year after the Recreation and Parks Department started using it, the Rutland Herald reported. The city had also secured $350,000 toward the $1.8 million purchase price.
A credit union took possession of the former College of St. Joseph property in 2019 after efforts to reopen the campus as an innovation center failed, the newspaper reported.
Recreation Superintendent Kim Peters said she has a variety of plans for the property this summer. Little League baseball will use the field behind the building, and a marked-off section of field will be for open soccer, she said.

Look Like 1.5 Million Bucks at City Gym February 20, 2021|
This damn pandemic #damndemic really messed with our workout routine. We miss the gym in all of its gay glory. The sauna, the cardio, the sauna, the weights, the sauna… did we mention that sauna? Please excuse our obsession, but we’re always curious to know what’s going on “down under” those towels.
Speaking of which, Australia handled Covid-19 better than many nations, averaging only a dozen new cases per day last month.
Due to their diligence, the Land of Oz was able to reopen the Emerald City, aka Sydney, in a robust manner. Salons, theaters and, most importantly, fitness centers embraced safety protocols to usher in 2021 with a sweaty grunt, and no establishment was more pumped than City Gym.
Sydney s Historic Gay Gym Reopens After $1.5 million Overhaul

City Gym s History
City Gym, the “gay gym” in Sydney, Australia s Darlinghurst gayborhood, first opened in 1978, the same year that launched the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade. Billy Moore, the trainer behind the gym made it an all-inclusive venue that quickly became a haven for the queer community in the ’70s and ’80s, as well as drawing bodybuilders and celebrities (including Jane Fonda, Grace Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hugh Jackman, and The Rock).
But for decades, the gym was home to predominantly queer clientele and it also became well known in the LGBTQ+ community for its annual Mardi Gras parade floats and serving as a rehearsal space for other floats.
