Oxnard to apply for $27.6M loan for recycled water project

Oxnard has some major infrastructure projects on the horizon aimed at ramping up recycled water production. The City Council last week authorized staff to begin the process of seeking a $27.6 million federal loan to expand the Advanced Water Purification Facility and increase the capacity to purify the city s wastewater. The loan, administered by the Environmental Protection Agency, would cover about half of the total costs of the latest expansion project. Council voted 6-0 on the loan, with Councilman Bryan MacDonald abstaining due to a conflict of interest. MacDonald lives in close proximity to Campus Park, the location of six recycled water wells that will be constructed as part of the project. Council also approved a $5 million street paving project for residential streets in the three neighborhoods of Fremont North and Bryce Canyon North and South.
