i m hearing here in charleston. ribed as ti see the damage and devastation in florida, yes i did get impacted by it but it has not been anything close to what they ve been dealing with. this route is about five minutes ago was completely cleared but you see city crews have been working pretty quickly to quayle s remaining roads. we know the power at one point in the area was out for about 100,000 people. has now been restored, car outages in the few thousands of people in this area. that s not to say charleston was spared from the storm. it was yesterday around this time when we know that hurricane, category one hurricane ian made landfall about 60 miles from where we are now. and charleston, we re getting 70 mile an hour wind gusts. they were seeing flooding in many areas, especially in the downtown area. and there was about 24 hours ago, i was reporting the police department.
listen. we believe and are optimistic that we can see water restored to our residents within this week. we had significant gains yesterday and true to form for a very fragile system that we always say is in a state of emergency there was some regression last night. so crews are working, you have both city crews and the state that are on the ground working to restore water and to bring in additional equipment to help achieve that end. reporter: so while the repairs at this water treatment facility are under way, as you would imagine drinking water is in high demand. we are at a distribution center for bottles of water here at the sykes community center in jackson. the organizers telling us many of these centers don t get under way in terms of distributing until 3:30 this afternoon. so water in a short supply although the state has said they will be blinking in truckloads
always say is a state of emergency, there was some regression last night and so crews are working, you have both city crews and the state that are on the ground, working to restore water and to bring in additional equipment to help achieve that end. there is also additional distribution of water, not only continuing to be provided and i want to be clear that our constituent services division has been providing water to residents for the better part of a month due to the fact that we were under a boil water notice, even before the events of the flood led to pressure issues across the city. and so the city will not only continue its efforts, but nema is joining in the effort to provide water tanks or tanker trucks across the city to help provide non-potable water and potable water to our residents. we want to thank the many
