Boston City Council weigh limits on police pepper spray, crowd control agents after Somerville passes ban on tear gas
Updated Apr 12, 2021;
Boston City Council is weighing a measure that would limit the use of pepper spray and other chemical crowd control agents during protests or demonstrations in the city.
The proposed ordinance would limit the use of chemical crowd control agents and kinetic projectiles like rubber bullets, during “lawful protests, demonstrations or other gatherings of 10 or more persons,” councilors said on Friday. The measures can only be authorized in response to “acts of violence” or destruction of property, they said.
