The city Planning Commission got a look at the Galt Market Community Plan on April 22, suggesting changes for City Manager Lorenzo Hines. It also voted to send the Galt housing plan to City Council for review but tasked staff with finding flexibility for the city.
The 20- to 30-year Galt Market Community Plan proposes remedying a drop in revenue from the Galt Market by leasing the surrounding city-owned land for residential and commercial development. The income from these leases would pay to landscape the vendor space and install amenities.
Since unveiling the plan to City Council on April 6, Hines has sought feedback from various city committees, including the Youth Commission, the Commission on Aging and the Beautification Committee. Among the suggestions from those bodies, Hines mentioned interest in green energy and shade structures.
