Belmopan City Council Faces Evection from City Hall
As extraordinary as it sounds, the Belmopan City Council is facing possible eviction from the Belmopan City Hall, and all three additional City Council structures on the property. News Five’s Paul Lopez has more on this dramatic turn of events.

News Five has learnt that the National Bank of Belize has been granted First Legal Charge of the Belmopan City Hall and three parcels of land in the City of Belmopan, as a part of a one point five million dollars loan agreement with the Belmopan City Council. The agreement was drafted pre-COVID, on January twentieth, 2020 and signed by the former City Council Administration on February fourteenth of 2020. Former City Council Mayor, Khalid Belisle and all six of his former councilors signed onto the agreement. The $25 million downtown hotel marks the latest project to land in the district. It brings around 50 new jobs downtown and boosts the propertyâs taxable value from $15,000 before the project to $208,000 annually now that the project is complete.

MISSOULA â Members of the Missoula City Council this week approved the sale of $1.8 million in bonds to fund public improvements completed with the recent construction of the AC Hotel downtown.
The bulk of the tax increment, or around $1.2 million, reimburses the developer for deconstructing and salvaging materials from the old Firestone building that once occupied the dilapidated property.
