bjohnson@theintermountain.com ELKINS Elkins City Hall will be closed to the public and to the candidates on the ballot on election night Tuesday. Elkins City Clerk Jessica Sutton told The Inter-Mountain Friday that, due to COVID-19 concerns, only election officials and the press will be permitted inside City Hall after the Elkins Municipal Election polls close Tuesday evening. “The plan now is that because of the number of candidates that we have, given the pandemic and the size of council chambers… we have 16 candidates, and that would basically fill the entire gallery if they were six feet apart,” Sutton said. “And then you have the press and ourselves, and we just decided not to do that this year.”

bjohnson@theintermountain.com ELKINS The City of Elkins has reappointed City Clerk Jessica Sutton and given her a raise of $6,000 per year. Elkins City Council set Sutton’s new compensation rate at $54,000 per year and reappointed her for another two-year term during a recent council meeting. “Madame Chairman, it gives me great honor to recommend the approval of Resolution 1364,” Second Ward Councilman Charlie Friddle stated at the meeting. All 10 council members voted to approve the resolution. “Thank you very much for your support,” Sutton said after the vote. Sutton has been paid $48,000 per year during her current term. The City of Elkins also provided The Inter-Mountain with the current salaries of the city’s other administrative officers:
