opened to house the migrants. and what you re seeing here directly behind this white van are two city buses. so far this morning, about three or four buses have arrived. about 20 to 25 migrants have arrived here at the hotel. what s happening is the city buses are bringing them here from port authority bus terminals, that s where the migrants are being bussed, usually from places across the southern border down in texas. they re meant to arrive here as a first point of connection. you asked about what services they re getting. well, they re getting here, the first thing they re offered is food and water and medical care. they re also being offered vaccinations and a place to sleep, a place to shower, a place to just settle down after this very long trip that they ve been on. and then the city is helping to connect them with services. everything from health to schools if there are children
arrived as of this morning. now, the buss are coming from texas, and they re still arriving at port authority bus terminal. that s where the city is now connecting the migrants to place them on city buses that are then coming here to the roosevelt hotel behind me. i want to give you a look inside the hotel. i believe we have some video and images of what the city has set up inside this hotel. this is supposed to operate as a one-stop welcome center, if you will. it is supposed to be a place where migrants can get connected to the resources that are available. i want to tell you a little bit about what i ve seen here this morning so far. i ve seen migrants coming in, and i ve seen them also coming out of the hotel, being boarded on to a city bus, and being taken to another facility, most likely a city shelter. while they re inside the hotel, they are connected with medical services, they are provided food
of emergency. gloria is joining us from new york city with more on this. what are you seeing this morning? it s interesting that you mentioned that drop of migrant encounters at the border. while that number has decreased in new york city, they are still dealing with an increase of people that are arriving here in the city or who are already in the city who need to be placed into shelter and connected to resources. i want to give you a look at what s happening behind me. you see the roosevelt hotel. behind that white van, you ll see two city buses. those buses have arrived here from port authority bus terminals. they were there to meet with another bus that was bringing in migrants from the southern border earlier today. we ve seen about three or four buses arrive this morning with about 20 to 25 migrants in them.

young adults filled the streets in downtown chicago. the rowdy teens smashed windows, stood on police cars and city buses. and ransacked local businesses. a 14-year-old boy was shot nearby. [shouting] [bleep] is [bleep] there were hundreds, maybe thousands in all six juveniles were arrested along with nine adults. the city s new mayor, brandon johnson, defended the looters over the weekend. he condemned it but then he didn t talk anything about consequence. he said this: it s not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved
