CARES Act dollars help boost City General Fund for 2020

VAN WERT – During a brief Van Wert City Council meeting on Monday, City Auditor Martha Balyeat spoke about how CARES Act monies affected the budget in 2020.
At the end of 2020, the City carried over $2 million in the General Fund, but Balyeat said it won t be fair to compare 2020 to other years. We have not carried over $2 million in the General Fund in the 21 years that I have been here, said Balyeat.
Council considers Charter Commission legislation for May ballot, discusses finances

VAN WERT – During Monday’s regular City Council meeting, Councilman
Andrew Davis explained that if Council wanted to put legislation on the
May ballot to ask voters, again, if they would like a Charter Commission
to be formed, they would have to discuss the issue rather quickly.
Davis noted that, according to Gary Hunter who helped them with the first initiative, Council would need to pass an ordinance to put the measure on the ballot by Jan. 25.
