The Charles City Main Street Bridge has held strong without any major upgrades for the last 25 years – a feat the city hopes it can replicate into the future. Though, of course the bridge will need to undergo minor repairs and changes.
This is what the city has been doing the last couple months. One may have noticed while driving to school or work that a single lane of the bridge was sectioned off. Don’t worry though, according to City Administrator Steve Diers, all of this needed bridge work is over with.
Over these last months, the city focused its time on fixing cracks on the top shell of the roadway and raising the road to help with safety concerns. The city pumped in 10,000 pounds of material into the legs of the bridge.
