City manager hire finalized
ELLSWORTH With the full approval of the City Council, Police Chief Glenn Moshier was named city manager on Jan. 11.
Moshier joined the Police Department 17 years ago and has served as police chief since 2017. He was named interim city manager in September 2020 following former City Manager David Cole’s retirement. Moshier will retain some of his duties as police chief and the title. His new merged position starts Jan. 17.
“I look forward to bringing the community together, opening lines of communication and working with the groups to address the needs of the city,” Moshier said following the council’s unanimous vote.
City manager negotiations move forward
ELLSWORTH Negotiations to hire Interim City Manager Glenn Moshier in a dual role combining the police chief and city manager positions is moving forward, City Council Chairman Dale Hamilton said on Dec. 29.
“We’re still negotiating, there’s no final decision on how the position will be structured,” Hamilton said, noting there wasn’t “much in the way of new information.”
The new ad hoc group Citizens Acting for a Responsible Ellsworth would still like to hear more, calling for more transparency.
“The complaint is strictly over the process,” said group member Jon Stein, co-owner of Fogtown Brewing Co. and vice president of Heart of Ellsworth’s board of directors. “I think as a city manager [Moshier] would have great communication and move the city in the right direction.” But, he added, Moshier’s qualifications don’t necessarily match those of a city manager and the council “sidestepped” the application proces

(Jackson) â A weekend crash in Waldo County has killed a 60-year old man from Orrington. State Police report to Star 97.7 that Douglas Bryant was driving a Pontiac that left Route 7 in Jackson, hit a culvert and then a tree. He died, a passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and emergency workers took him to the hospital in Belfast. (Ellsworth) The Ellsworth Burger King will broil its last Whopper today. A manager confirmed to Star 97.7 the High Street location will close its doors permanently, along with locations on Hogan Road in Bangor, Orono and Rockland. The four restaurant franchises are owned by Steve Wegner who purchased them many years ago from Peter Ricciardi. Wegner had previously closed Burger King Restaurants in Caribou and Presque Isle, citing challenging sales volumes and di
