Illinois officially became the first state to eliminate cash bail on Sept. 18. The Pretrial Fairness Act holds that individuals arrested for crimes across Illinois no longer have to pay cash to be released from jail while awaiting trial. The highly anticipated bill comes after numerous delays and legal setbacks. The act was originally slated.
Darlene Cannon grew up in the 2nd Ward, attending Evanston/Skokie School District 65 schools before going to Evanston Township High School.
