Ocado and KP Snacks detail progress on plastic phase-outs Online retailer Ocado had launched a refresh of its own-range products that will remove more than nine million pieces of packaging while also reducing the amount of plastic used, while KP Snacks has also announced packaging reductions. Both organisations have successfully removed plastics from a range of products Ocado’s product refresh accounts for more than 530 products, ranging from coffees and salads to tinned goods. The refresh will see the removal of nine million non-essential packaging components from Ocado’s own-brand products. Across the range, around 27 tonnes of plastic has been removed, including 640,000 plastic nets. An adhesive label has also been removed on items such as egg boxes, with information now printed directly onto the box, saving around 10 tonnes of paper annually.

Circular economy models reduce costs and boost sales for major fashion brands Outerwear brand FW and fashion platform Farfetch have revealed the results of two-year pilots of circular economy models, pledging to expand them following positive financial results. FW added a ‘gold standard’ repair service to Its new brand as standard, while Farfetch launched two re-commerce offerings. A new report published today (15 March) outlines the benefits of these trials. FW has seen the costs associated with its returns under warranty decrease by 60% under the programme, the report reveals, with customers increasingly opting for verified repairs over refunds or replacements. This, in turn, keeps materials in use, reducing environmental impacts as well as costs.

Experts from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Ikea, Innovate UK and The Body Shop took part in The Circular Economy Inspiration Sessions - an afternoon of live, interactive presentations and discussions on Thursday 25 March. Registrants can still access recordings of all three sessions. The event took place on  Thursday 25 March and is targeted at individuals who are looking to enhance their approaches and strategies to product manufacturing and procurement to encourage a transition to a circular economy. The online event effectively combined three edie webinars into a single afternoon. Each webinar session had its own edie chair and selection of independent expert speakers, with each session taking a particular format.
