TOPEKA (KSNT) The Kansas House of Representatives have overridden Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of a bill that requires emergency care for infants born alive after a failed abortion.
The Legislature voted to effectively ban gender-affirming care for Kansans under the age of 18 and revoke the license of physicians who offered this care, comparing gender identity issues to smoking.
The ban is one of several anti-LGBTQ bills passed by the Kansas Legislature. It would allow for civil suits against doctors who provided gender-affirming care which is widely supported by U.S. medical associations for those under age 18. It would also revoke the licenses of physicians who offered such care, starting in July 2023.
