I grew up in West Acres Addition just outside of Muncie. The heavily wooded lots provided for a magical childhood. In warmer months, my sisters and I spent the majority of our time exploring the natural surroundings, while birds serenaded in the sun-dappled canopy. This serenity was routinely interrupted by the ominous low-rumble clamor of Norfolk Southern trains. Their horn blasts piercing through the trees, scattering children and forest critters alike from the approaching thunder of industrial America.
