Ciara Martin Perks of Newtownmountkennedy has been appointed to the Office of Peace Commissioner for Wicklow by Justice Minister Helen McEntee.
The powers and duties of Peace Commissioners consist primarily of taking statutory declarations, witnessing signatures on documents if required by various authorities and signing certificates and orders under various Acts.
Ciara is Chairperson of Newtownmountkennedy District Forum, sits on the Board of Management of Newtownmountkennedy Primary School, as well as a committee member of Newtownmountkennedy Community Centre and is the secretary of the CE Scheme run through the Community Centre.
Speaking about her appointment, Ciara said: I was very honoured at receiving the news. I was told the appointment was coming but it s not until you get sent that piece of paper confirming and framed in your home that it really hits you.
