Striker Ronan Murray won his 14th Republic of Ireland U19 cap as his side beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 in their final European U19 Championships elite qualifying group game in Kiev. The victory wasn’t enough to take the Irish youngsters to the finals with England winning the group.
Striker Connor Wickham says scoring the goal which won England the European U17s Championships for the first time was the perfect way to end a season which has seen him establish himself in the Town squad and sign his first professional contract. The 17-year-old, who had previously scored both goals in the 2-1 semi-final against France, netted England’s second just after half-time in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Spain.
Winger Reggie Lambe and goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin have received international calls. Lambe will be with a Bermuda U23 camp next month, while McLoughlin is in the Irish U19 squad for their UEFA Championship elite qualifying phase matches this summer.
Defender Jack Ainsley has put pen to paper on his new six-month deal aiming to do enough to win himself an extended stay at Portman Road. The 20-year-old was amongst the 21 players whose contracts were up at the end of the season.
