Council of Churches Takes on G.O.B. on Salary Decrease
The ten percent salary reduction for teachers and public officers came into force in June, after weeks of failed negotiations between the joint unions and the Briceño administration. The Belize Council of Churches, though somewhat belated, has weighed in on the salary cuts. In a release issued earlier today, the Church is openly calling to question its relationship with the Government of Belize, particularly in light of recent actions taken by G.O.B. which the Church believes will further erode and undermine that relationship. The Council of Churches cites in its release that the prime minister is on record stating that school management authorities, and not government, were responsible for the ten percent salary decrease. Assigning blame, according to the Church, is grossly unfair. News Five will get a comment from Bishop Phillip Wright of the Council of Churches on Wednesday.
