Dunn, N.C. Routine pipeline maintenance work planned this week may alarm some Sampson County residents.
Weather permitting, Piedmont Natural Gas will be conducting flaring operations in Dunn and Salemburg Dec. 14-18 which may produce a loud noise, a tall flame and the smell of natural gas, which could be noticed by nearby homes and businesses.
The work will be performed at the following sites:
1000 Union Church Grove Road in Dunn
527 Horse Pasture Road in Salemburg
The work, which uses a flare stack, or a large, vertical pipe, is a controlled process that will be managed and monitored by Piedmont Natural Gas personnel in cooperation with local fire department resources, officials said.
