the face of the democratic opposition? you know, that s an interesting question. one thing i don t see among the democrats. i see some democrats who are talking about how the party needs to appeal more to white working class voters, on the basis of economics. what i don t see is them saying what other democrats have done in the past, which is we also need to try to cater a little bit to their cultural sensibilities in a way that bill clinton did in the 1990s. and i wonder if a merely economic message is going to be enough to try to cut those margins no. no. they re absolutely not. i wrote a whole book about it, no. there is a cultural riff right nogoing on in this country and progressives and my liberal friends, they think everything s transactional. that middle america family that goes to church every sunday. everything isn t about pocketbook and transactions. howard deen talked about it. i don t think enough progressives understand that.

forgotten war. we will get to that in a minute. when you read this poll, i am being unfair. there are spiritual people that don t align themselves with any faith. that s true there is a growing secularism in the democratic party that i think is reflected in their positions. do you agree? i do. and what i did was when i got the assignment i talked to three democrats today. and i said what do you think of this poll and what do you think of this? they said number one for most millennials they look at this poll and for the most part declare themselves democrats even if they are not. younger people do it. what are the two issues that matter most? pot? number one, legalized we want to do it and same sex marriage. that seems to be resonating on campuses even those that might lean conservative. the structure is in the church. they say to both things yeah i m spiritual. i have got my value system but i don t need to go to the church every sunday because fundamentally i m beginning to disagree

i was adopted. my birth mom was 15 years old when she had me, so she was no in shape of taking care of a child. i was adopted when i was three days old so they are the only parents i ve known for my whole life but i ve always wondered who is my birth mom? what did she look like? what does she think about? where does she live? do i have any brothers and sisters, and that was always a touchy subject with my family because they tried so hard to get a child and finally got here and i m sitting here wondering about another set parents that could be possibly be somewhere else so they kind of found it offensive. but i went to church every sunday. memorized my bible verses, was tout what was good and what was bad. ate meals together, had fun together, went on vacations together, like your original all-american republican family, and and i was 14 and i ran away from home, and i ran away from home because my mom and dad said i couldn t talk to a boy,

was this violent, socially withdrawn, pretty much demonic little kid where i black out and do crazy violent things. how am i going to deal with this? i m going to tell you. the good lord would be a good place to start. i don t feel like i should push him into church. if you don t, the devil will take him. he doesn t go to church. he sits there like it s better than sitting in hell. i know. this is a very churchy city, i guess. everyone here believes in god, goes to church every sunday. and for a 12-year-old kid to say i don t like going to church makes you feel uncomfortable. it s weird. if he would do this once, he might do it again. and we d have to be in fear for anybody he s around.
