A home invasion suspect remained hospitalized Monday morning after getting shot by a homeowner in the Cathedral City Cove community.
Police officers were called to a home along the 38200 block of Chuperosa Lane on the east side of the cove Sunday at 6:16 p.m.
The 85-year old homeowner said a man, who was a stranger, broke in to the home and told the elderly residents to leave his home.
They tried to diffuse the situation, but the homeowner retrieved a gun to protect himself and eventually shot the suspect.

A home invasion suspect remained in the intensive care unit and in stable condition as of Monday morning after he was shot by a homeowner in the Cathedral City Cove community.

A home invasion suspect was shot by a homeowner in Cathedral City on Sunday evening in the 38200 block of Chuperosa Lane, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
Police said dispatch received 911 calls around 6:15 p.m., reporting that a male intruder had entered the home and threatened the elderly occupants to leave.
The homeowners attempted to defuse the situation, but the intruder became agitated and made threats against their lives, according to police.
Officials said the 85-year-old homeowner then retrieved a firearm and shot the intruder in the upper body.
Officers arrived on the scene and began conducting emergency life-saving measures. The subject was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
