After more than a year of thorough investigation into a fire, which led to a death on the island of Caye Caulker, police have been able to lay charges against a farmer. 23-year-old Ervin Torres, a farmer of Chunox, Corozal, has been charged with causing death by careless conduct in the death of Elmer Chub. The incident took place on September 21, 2019 when Chub’s remains were found inside the burnt remnants of a structure on Caye Caulker. Chub perished inside an apartment and reports are that a tenant in the building, now determined to be Torres, had left a candle burning and that caused the fire which led to Chub’s death.
