Board narrowly approves liquor use at Chucky's over neighbor objections

CUMBERLAND – When someone can’t be taken at their most basic word on a statement with no gray areas, what else matters, says Town Councilor Scott Schmitt. Schmitt logged one of three no votes in the minority of a 4-3 decision last week to approve a zone change for the Chucky’s Creamery property at 48 West Wrentham Road allowing a liquor use there. Some neighbors opposed the change, noting that they were promised in certain terms by property owner Michael Bouthillette in 2017 that he would not be back in the future seeking permission to sell alcohol if the council approved a zone change for the property allowing a restaurant use at that time.

Board recommends liquor license at Chucky's | The Valley Breeze

CUMBERLAND – Back in 2017, against the objections of neighbors, the Town Council approved a restaurant use for the former Dancing Pig restaurant property at 48 West Wrentham Road. Peter Bradley, council president at the time, broke a 3-3 tie based on the fact that liquor would not be served at the new restaurant, later revealed to be Chucky’s Creamery. Mike Bouthillette, business partners with Chuck Moreau at Chucky s, said back in 2017 that the plan was to reopen the vacant space as a family restaurant with no liquor served, open only for breakfasts and ice cream. He said the applicant would not be back at a later date seeking a liquor use.
