Fairfield Water Dept employees will continue flushing hydrants throughout the city today and tomorrow. This is done each spring and fall to test the hydrants and help keep your water supply clean and pure. The City of Fairfield is required by ILL EPA to inform residents of the possible lead content in the water supply during hydrant flushing. While flushing the hydrants, you may notice that your water may be temporarily discolored. While flushing occurs, you may also experience a dip in water pressure, and it might affect the lead plumbing in and outside your home, if your home is equipped with lead plumbing. If your water is discolored, it does not mean it is unsafe to drink. It just means there is a temporary increase in the concentration of iron within the water. While lines are being flushed, residents are urged to check for discoloration of your water before doing laundry or similar activities. Fairfield Public School District 112 will conduct Parent/Teacher Conferences at North Side and Center Street schools on October 27th and 28th. Conferences on the 27th will be from 3 to 7, and those on the 28th will be from 3 to 6:30. The date and time will be arranged with teachers, and grades will be issued at the conferences or mailed to the home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all participants must wear a face covering and certify temperature and symptom screening upon arrival. School will not be in session for students on October 29th. The Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce plans to hold its town-wide rummage sale on October 23rd. The deadline to purchase a spot on the map is this Friday at 9 a.m. The cost is $5 for location only and $10 for location and a small ad with items for sale. People can contact the Chamber at 842-6116 or at chamber@fairfieldilcitygov.us to secure a spot on the map. 31-year-old Fairfield resident Steven M. Thomas was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated assault, a Class 4 felony, and was sentenced to 18 months probation and time served in jail. Two separate counts were dismissed per his plea. Thomas was also ordered to pay $920 in fines and court costs. 45-year-old Fairfield resident Ronald W. Dunlap was arrested by Fairfield police yesterday at the Fairfield High Rise. He was wanted on a Wayne County warrant for possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and obstruction of justice. D
