There will be SUPER activities with art and live music and the Annual Smallville Costume Contest.
Smallville celebrations began back in 2012, when Christopher Wietrick, KC McNeely and Ben Eisiminger set up a Smallville information booth downtown at Gallery 7, during a May Third Thursday. The premise of this event was to tie in the overwhelming similarities of the story of Superman and Smallville to the Hutchinson, Kansas area. It didn’t take much to convince the community, as the evidence was plentiful.
Wietrick explains three connections between the two,
“In the TV series, the population of Smallville is 45,001. Hutchinson’s population is about 42,000.
An annual change in leadership at the Hutchinson City Council this week led to the elevation of the board s two newest members to mayor and vice mayor.
Also on Tuesday, the council approved amending an engineering contract on developing plans for the first phase of the Washington Street bicycle path, adopted new maps that will put more than 200 additional properties in the city under federal flood plain designations and extended a lease for the Airport Steakhouse.
At the start of the meeting, Southeast District representative Steven Garza was elected as mayor and At-Large Councilman Sara Bagwell as vice mayor.
Bagwell nominated Garza for the post, and vice versa. There were no other nominations.
