According to a recent study published in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution, climate change could lead to an abrupt increase in the number of species pushed over tipping points. The research suggests that up to 30% of species could be affected as their geographic ranges reach unforeseen temperatures.
Climate change is predicted to drive up to 30 per cent of species over tipping points. When the thermal exposure threshold is exceeded, the animal does not necessarily die out, but there is no evidence that it can survive
The study, analysed data from over 35,000 species of animals including mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, corals, and fish, from every continent and ocean basin.
