Deputies: Polk County man arrested in November DUI crash had BAC more than three times legal limit

LAKELAND, Fla. - Nearly one month ago, two Lakeland men were killed in a suspected DUI crash, and investigators announced the driver has been charged.
On Tuesday, Polk County detectives arrested 31-year-old Justin Mathis of Highland City. He faces charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI with property damage.
The deadly crash occurred around 9:46 p.m. on November 20 on U.S. Highway 98 and County Road 540A in the Highland City area of Lakeland. When deputies arrived, they found the passengers were dead: 34-year-old Christopher Lofton and 38-year-old David Weldon.
A Highland City man was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter for his role in the deaths of two Lakeland men during a crash in Lakeland on Nov. 20.
Polk County Sheriff s Office deputies arrested Justin Mathis, 31, of Highland City, on Tuesday. Mathis was the driver in the fatal crash that killed Christopher Lofton, 34, and David Weldon, 38.
About 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, Mathis was driving a 2018 Chevy Silverado pickup south on U.S. 98 South near County Road 540-A when he collided with a semi-truck driven by Daniel Mariscal, 59, of Tampa. The passenger side of the Silverado became wedged underneath the left rear of the semi s 53-foot box trailer.
