WESTMINSTER â John Broadley came to Vermont almost 30 years ago from his native Scotland to teach at the Greenwood School in Putney.
Since then, Broadley has been a special education teacher, a math teacher, activities director, athletic director, varsity girls soccer coach, and for the past 12 years has been assistant principal at Bellows Falls Union High School. He taught at the Greenwood School from 1993 until 2002, when he moved to BFUHS.
Broadley, 61, was named the new principal at the union high school that serves the towns of Rockingham, Westminster, Athens and Grafton, succeeding Christopher Hodsden, who is retiring from the position after 16 years to seek a new opportunity.

WESTMINSTER â Bellows Falls Union High School board member Jason Terry apologized Monday night for his verbal outburst last month at the school principal, saying he was just trying to protect his son.
âI would like to apologize for my behavior,â he said. âMy passion got the best of me.â
âOn March 23rd I was involved in a shouting match at Bellows Falls Union High School with Principal (Christopher) Hodsden and I own that. I found out recently that there were people at the high school who felt uncomfortable by that confrontation, and to anyone who feels this way you have my unequivocal apology. This will never happen again,â Terry said.

BELLOWS FALLS â Superintendent of School Christopher Pratt has taken out a âno trespassâ order against school director Jason Terry, which prohibits him from the grounds of Bellows Falls Union High School and its activities, after he got into a public dispute with Principal Christopher Hodsden.
The Windham Northeast Supervisory Union superintendent said Friday via email he took out the order out of concern for the faculty, staff and students at the high school after several of them witnessed a verbal confrontation between Terry and Hodsden late last month at the high school.

BELLOWS FALLS â The school nurse at Bellows Falls Union High School demanded Monday night that a member of the BFUHS school board from Rockingham resign because of a bullying incident at the high school last month.
Nurse Rebecca Stockwell lodged the complaint against Director Jason Terry during a Rockingham School Board meeting. Terry, a Bellows Falls resident, is also a member of the Rockingham board.
Stockwell said that Terry, who was elected to the BFUHS board last month, violated numerous local and state school board ethics policies over bullying and harassment during an incident at the high school last month. She said Terry threatened school officials with the loss of their jobs and physical harm, and that the incident was witnessed by numerous students and school faculty.

WESTMINSTER â Bellows Falls Union High Schoolâs departing principal, Christopher Hodsden, has been honored by his fellow Vermont principals as the Robert F. Pierce Principal of the Year.
Hodsden, 55, who has been principal at the high school for the past 16 years, recently gave his notice that he would be leaving the school at the end of the year to pursue other opportunities.
Before he was principal, he taught mathematics and was assistant principal at the 330-student school, but he said the award hasnât changed his mind about leaving.
âEvery day for the past two weeks, when I have entered the building, our attendance secretary, who does student COVID-19 health screenings, says, âHave you changed your mind yet?ââ
