Burglary suspect killed by police four days after prison release

Christopher Cuevas, a burglary suspect shot and killed by a Glendale police officer three days before Christmas, was released from prison four days earlier. According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Cuevas was at the state prison in Kingman from March 2018 until his “community supervision” release Dec. 18, 2020. He served more than half of a three-and-a-half year sentence for vehicle theft. Cuevas, who was 45, was previously sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison for another vehicle theft, robbery and theft charges. His previous convictions were in 1994 and 2007. According to Tiffany Ngalula, a police spokeswoman, an officer responded to a burglary alarm around 4:30 a.m. Dec. 22 on 59th Lane near 59th and Northern avenues, a few blocks from Downtown Glendale.
