let s begin with that developing news. no amtrak service through oakland after two trains collided at the jack london square station last night injuring 16. amy hollyfield is live with the latest. reporter: the station is still shutdown. check out the scene behind me. crews are hard at with work trying to the trains moved from the tracks. they are still here. they will be offering a bus bridge this morning between this station here in oakland and the emeryville station. there s no word about when this will be reopening. the two trains were pulled apart a little after 4:00 this morning. they hit head-on 10:00 last night. ones with stopped unloading. the other coming in. they both had passengers. amtrak is calling this a low speed collision. 16 were hurt, injuries all minor. still, the passengers say it was scary. i was on my phone and i heard a big crash and didn t know what happened. everyone got off the train, couple people hurt. looked serious. what happened to you?
this is ridiculous. i should just not go to work tomorrow. yet another night of delays and frustrations on the orange line. metro can t guarantee it will be better in the morning. good evening i m jim vance. and i m doreen gentzler. last night a person was hit by a train and it caused chaos. but tonight it was a mechanical failure that stopped the trains and had people packed in like sardines again. john schriffen has more. reporter: when i talked to the riders who got off this metro station they told me here we go again. this evening s commute was not as bad as the commute that happened yesterday. however metro says it cannot confirm that all of the problems today will be cleared up by tomorrow morning s commute. metro riders on the orange line rushed to the exit after delayed service. riders had to sit on the tracks for 30 minutes leave some the question whether to ride metro any more. i usually ride the vre. and they give you a free certificate when they are over
all over oakland here. it s a building on the 3700 block of west street. it does look like some sort of commercial building or it could be a mixed use space. firefighters arrived about a half-hour ago. first firefighters on the scene noticed heavy black smoke and flames and we saw that, too. now there is reportedly a rescue going on of someone inside. our crew is just arriving on the scene. we ll have a live report from the scene coming up in minutes. it s 7:00, let s go back to the desk. more than a dozen people were hurt after a crash between two amtrak trains at 10:00 last night. ktvu s paul chambers has more on how this ahappenned. reporter: good morning, claudine. we re nine hours out. there are crews working to repair the tracks. that may take some time because they moved lifts to move one of the locomotive the out of the way loy mow coatives out of the locomotives out of the way. at the point of impact there s a look at video here where the two train collided.
