City of Riverside Approves Contract with Kalona Public Library

The Riverside City Council has approved a contract with the Kalona Public Library for fiscal year 2022. Riverside City Administrator Christine Yancey says they will pay the Kalona library about $21,000 to provide Riverside residents full access to library services. She says the extent of those services is to be determined given that COVID-19 currently limits the library to curbside-only checkout of books and materials. Yancey says the partnership fills a need for a city without their own library, “They can get access to internet books, they have access to get literature or whatever they want to get from the library and get it curbside, so I think it’s very important that everybody has options to keep things rolling. With COVID it gives you that closed-in, closed off feeling and this is just another opening.”

Riverside Compiling Results of Community Center Survey

The City of Riverside is reviewing the results of a survey gauging the interest for a new community center. Over 1200 surveys were mailed out to residents and property owners with Riverside addresses asking if a community center should be built and what amenities should be included in its design. At Monday’s city council meeting, City Administrator Christine Yancey reported preliminary results are pointing towards an overall desire for the center, “I was pleasantly surprised by the ones that I read about how many people want to serve on the (planning) committee. There were quite a few, 10, 12 maybe that had their names on the back (of the survey). For the most part things were favorable to having the community center, but we’ll find out when they file the report.”

City of Riverside Reminds Residents of Community Center Survey

Residents and property owners with Riverside addresses have until the end of the month to return their surveys to determine the need and makeup of a possible new community center. Over 1200 surveys were mailed out and City Administrator Christine Yancey says they want as much feedback as they can get on whether to move forward with the project, “Right now we have 225 (surveys) that we’ve gotten back so far. Which is about 16 percent and I’d like to get more in the 20 to 25 percent range.” Yancey says if your survey was lost, replacements are available and multiple surveys from a household will be accepted. The letter also contains a QR code respondents can scan into their phone to complete surveys online.
