walmart is celebrating a big victory today after the court s unanimous decision to block a massive class action lawsuit. more than a million women were trying to sue the retail giant for alleged sex discrimination. pete williams joins us live from the court. what was the reason for this unanimous decision? the court was unanimous that the kind of lawsuit that the women filed mixed too many questions together. questions of asking to find that walmart did in fact discriminate, but to punish the company with punitive damages and back pay. there s no way on back pay to have a class action decide how much each woman was entitled to. on that the court was unanimous. if this were simply that the women could have tried to fashion a different class action lawsuit. the more important decision is the second question on which the court was 5-4. they said there wasn t enough glue in this class action to hold all the members of the class together. they said there has to be some thing in
