What happens when you apply musical forms to speech? Norwegian composer-turned-playwright Fredrik Brattberg takes this question and turns it into an intriguing thought experiment in
Virus: A Fugue, a new play that received its world premiere this week, with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
A fugue is a piece of music that starts with a theme, played or sung by one voice, which is then taken up by multiple voices, getting more complex with each layer. A bit like a virus. Endangered Productions offers us a neat performance of Bach’s “Little” Fugue, by way of example, played against the backdrop of a graphic representation of the music.
