Higher ocean and river temperatures are stressing Atlantic salmon, depriving these iconic fish of oxygen and forcing them to swim farther to find food. These climate change pressures are also impacting salmon in ocean farms, which have seen an increase in mass die-offs.
Apparently, the greater Peoria area takes its pizza seriously.
Recent Facebook surveys asked Peoria Journal Star and Pekin Daily Times readers to weigh in on their favorite non-chain pizzerias. With results still coming in, nearly 500 readers obliged with comments.
Area favorites included a mixture of the old – like Agatucci’s in Peoria, established in 1926 – and newer choices like George’s Pizza in East Peoria, which opened last year. Because of the wide variety of pizza toppings and crust styles available, a side-by-side comparison may often be like measuring apples against oranges. Is the deep dish pie at Peoria Pizza Works in Peoria Heights better than the wood-fired pizza at Cheese Nuts in Peoria? How does the brick-oven pizza at Maquet’s Railhouse in Pekin stack up against the Quad City-style pizza at Knuckles Pizza and Sports Bar in Far North Peoria?
Align RNG is a partnership between Smithfield Foods and Dominion Energy. The new company plans to build a 30-mile pipeline network among 19 farms in Duplin and Sampson counties that will install or convert one lagoon to a covered gas capture system. The farms will then ship methane generated by the hog waste to a central processing plant along N.C. Highway 24 in Turkey. From there, the Align RNG plant will upgrade the gas and inject it into the Piedmont natural gas line, where it will be purchased from Piedmont by Duke Energy.
However, Align RNG has intentionally not disclosed the full list of the farms, nor their locations, to the public or DEQ. The four farms that plan to participate in the Align RNG project M&M Waters, Benson, Kilpatrick Farm 1, 2, 4 and 5/Merritt Farm and Farm 2037/2038 are corporately owned and operated by Smithfield.
