An Arizona-based nursing college is looking to tap into the Connecticut market for growth and help the state address its healthcare workforce shortage, which some say has reached a crisis stage.
The Arizona College of Nursing has signed a lease to occupy 30,000 square feet of space in an East Hartford office building at 99 East River Drive, where it plans to open its first Connecticut campus next year.
At Bristol Health, a small independent health system with 1,800 employees, 98% of workers were vaccinated by the Sept. 15 deadline. But while the hospital’s mandate to get vaccinated for COVID has pushed the majority of those previously unvaccinated to get a shot, it also has resulted in a spike in workers receiving religious exemptions.

Hospital of Central Connecticut, Bristol Hospital to mandate all employees receive covid-19 vaccine

Bristol Hospital and the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain are among 27 hospitals in the state that will soon mandate employees receive the covid-19 vaccine.
The mandate comes amid an agreement recently made by leaders of the state’s hospitals and the Connecticut Hospital Association. This follows a federal judge in June dismissing a lawsuit filed by more than 100 hospital workers in Texas who sued the Houston Methodist Hospital after they were required to receive the covid-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.
Hospitals in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and other states have implemented similar mandates.
