Former Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek won the Democratic nomination for Oregon governor Tuesday. She will face the winner of the GOP gubernatorial primary as well as nonaffiliated candidate Betsy Johnson in the fall. As a nonaffiliated candidate, Johnson did not need to run in a primary race to make the fall ballot.
Christine Drazan, R-Canby, says, Our confidence in our system of government is an appropriate confidence
Rep. Christine Drazan said she felt disheartened when watching the violent scene that unfolded at the nation s Capitol on Wednesday, Jan. 6. The destruction of property and violence is always abhorrent and unacceptable, said Drazan, R-Canby.
Drazan represents Oregon House District 39, which includes Estacada, Eagle Creek, Barton, Beavercreek, Boring, Canby, Carus, Charbonneau, Fischers Mill, Mulino, Redland, rural areas of Oregon City and portions of Damascus and Happy Valley.
As Congress began certifying the win of President-elect Joe Biden on Jan. 6, insurrectionists stormed the Capitol building, leading to an evacuation. One woman was fatally shot by police and three people died of apparent medical emergencies as a result of the incident.
