RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The 20-year-old suspect and victim of the killing at a apartment complex on Hillsborough Street last weekend were married just a week before, documents say.
Erick Gael Hernandez-Mendez was arrested Wednesday and charged with murdering Christina Maria Matos.
The two lived as roommates, along with another person, at the Signature 1505 apartments on Hillsborough Street.
Records show Hernandez-Mendez and Matos were married March 29. The marriage certificate shows Hernandez-Mendez was born in Mexico, Matos in Queens, New York.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A 20-year-old was arrested Wednesday in connection with the murder of a young woman found dead in her apartment near North Carolina State University.
Raleigh police said 20-year-old Eric Gael Hernandez-Mendez, who was a roommate of Christina Maria Matos, was charged with her murder.
Officers responded to the 1500 block of Hillsborough Street on Sunday after it was reported that Matos, 20, didn’t show up for her birthday party on Saturday. She was previously a student at Wake Tech – but was not registered for this semester – and had just turned 20 years old on Friday. Her parents said she went out to celebrate with friends Friday night and that was the last time she was seen.

Raleigh Police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old man with killing his roommate in their apartment near North Carolina State University,
WRAL reports. Officers found the body of
Christina Maria Matos Sunday night (April 4) after her father called police to perform a welfare check.
WRAL, Christina s family drove to her apartment, which she shared with roommates, but found that all bedrooms in the three-room suite-style apartment were locked. They waited for her to arrive, but she never did. That s when they reached out to police for help. When they arrived, they found her dead inside her locked room.
