Loyalsock Township School District to offer summer classes for students behind due to pandemic | News, Sports, Jobs

pcrossley@sungazette.com In an effort to ramp up support to those who have had difficulty during this year of COVID, for about five weeks this summer, students in the Loyalsock Township School District will be able to attend summer school and remediation programs offered by the district. The school board gave their okay to the program which will be offered to students in first grade through fifth and incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders and also eighth graders going into ninth in the fall. According to Gerald McLaughlin, superintendent, principals in the district have been working to identify students who would benefit from the programs, based on assessments and grades. The programs will be funded by Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Response (ESSER) II funds.

Loyalsock officials talk cyber charter school reform | News, Sports, Jobs

Tom Wolf”s recent budget proposal addresses the issue of cyber charter school reform, members of the Loyalsock Township School Board reaffirmed their support of the governor’s efforts at their meeting earlier this week. The board agreed to reaffirm a resolution, which had been approved last year, calling for the reform. Superintendent Gerald McLaughlin noted that the state’s school board association had called for boards to again acknowledge their support of the resolution. Wolf’s proposal, if approved, would establish cyber charter school tuition rates at $9,500 for basic education, which McLaughlin told the board, the district now pays around $11,500.
