The balloon flight in Around The World in 80 Days at the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds the first theatre to reopen in Suffolk

Bury St Edmunds’ Theatre Royal is buzzing again now that audiences are back in the building enjoying the mad-cap adventure comedy being acted on stage in their opening production of Around The World in 80 Days.

This new production directed by artistic director Owen Calvert-Lyons was chosen because it captured the spirit of his vision for the venue. The story was a Victorian classic which reflected the heritage of the building but was told in a very modern, energetic way which said a lot about contemporary theatre.
Two top Suffolk singers - Roma -Manteiga-Nicholson and Christina Johnston - will lead the musical performance at the St Elizabeth Hospice’s Suffolk Remembers 2021 memorial event at Felixstowe seafront on June 21.

Framlingham-born opera singer Christina Johnston is set to perform at a fundraising event for the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds next weekend.
A private concert with Johnston was one of the lots available in the Ed Sheeran: Made In Suffolk Legacy Auction organised by Suffolk charity GeeWizz, which raised £500,000 for children and young people in East Anglia.
The successful bid for the private show came from the Hon Ben and Emma Fisher.
However, it was donated to the Theatre Royal - where Mrs Fisher is on the board of trustees.

Between 9pm and 10pm there will be musical performances from Ipswich singer, Roma Manteiga-Nicholson, and well-known soprano Christina Johnston, as well as an opportunity for the public to see the first statue for St Elizabeth Hospice’s 2022 fundraising art trail the Big Hoot Ipswich, ‘A Hoot to Suffolk, designed by local artist Angie Ashford.
Roma Manteiga-Nicholson said: I m extremely excited to be performing at Suffolk Remembers 2021 for St Elizabeth Hospice. The hospice provides comfort and care for patients and families and I ve supported them by fundraising at events for the last three years and volunteering recently at their Zest charity shop, which raises funds for their young adult service.”
