Words, special words

Essential to Evangelicalism These words do not have one single reference and specific meaning, these are lucid and rounded and flowing and has in them an abundance of joy and Christian charity. Take for example Cross (Crucifixion) - there are libraries full of wonderful books that give root and branch to the depths and splendour of the fullness and richness of the Cross of Christ. Rock - the Psalms speak of the Rock which endures, the Rock as of the Lord, the Rock which is steady, and Jesus in his parable speaks of the foundation rock and the corner stone.

Strong Man – a renewed call

It is frightening  -  a political call for a strong man. BBC announced Germany has registered 964,574 new asylum-seekers in the first 11 months of 2012, putting it on course for more than a million in 2015. Documents leaked suggested the government was privately anticipating the arrival of up to 1.5 million by 2021. Chancellor Angela Merkel s decision to welcome Syrian refugees has won her plaudits in some quarters but sparked a backlash in others, with some senior ministers openly questioning the approach. This comes at the very time when Australia s former Prime Minister Tony Abbott in 2014 called upon Muslims to engage in a reformation and many in Germany have already expressed their fears that a significant majority of these asylum-seekers will choose ‘not to assimilate’.

Reaching up – Nelson Cook

Photo  -   Calm waters Nelson Cook who established Coaches of Influence (COIN) 30 years ago in Los Angeles USA writes a monthly letter to the many coaches at professional, college and high school levels and the current correspondence touches the spot. It has been my privilege since 1984 to have been hosted innumerable times by Nelson Cook in my years in sport ministry, the most recent was in 2009 where I addressed coaches over breakfasts, lunches and dinners. In a recent Nelson Cook newsletter to his coaches he wrote: Reaching with the Gospel It is my opinion that the best evangelistic center in the greater metropolitan Boston area is NOT a church. It is a filling station in Arlington. It was owned and operated by a man named Bob who caught the vision early in his life that his vocation and his calling were to be welded together. As time passed, his station became known as the place to go for gas, new tires, or other car service.
