This year, Volkswagen plans to test 10 ID Buzz electric vehicles retrofitted with Mobileye's autonomous driving platform with safety drivers on board in Austin
The German automaker plans to launch autonomous, or self-driving, vehicles for ride hailing and goods delivery services in Austin, Texas after partnering with supplier Mobileye.
VW will use a small fleet of specially equipped Euro-spec ID Buzz minivans to provide ride-hailing services to a closed group in a geofenced portion of Austin, Texas, beginning this month, using Mobileye technology. Ultimately, the company plans to expand to other U.S. cities and serve the general public by 2026.
