Berlin - Elon Musk always said Tesla would build its electric car factory in Grünheide in Brandenburg in record time. Cars were supposed to roll off the assembly line by July. As things stand now, that s almost impossible to imagine; construction at the site had been halted and Musk s first German factory now faces a bureaucratic nightmare.

Tesla wants tax money for the largest battery factory in the world. This news comes as a surprise to the state of Brandenburg, among others. The Tesla battery factory is to be built in Grünheide right next to the Gigafactory for electric cars. According to press reports, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology has allowed the US corporation to “provisionally begin measures”, albeit at its own risk.

Tesla and Government Reach a New Agreement on Giga Berlin
Tesla Giga Berlin is allowed to continue building at the factory in Grünheide as Tesla and Brandenburg reached a new agreement.

Tesla can continue building on the construction site of its planned factory in Grünheide near Berlin. Brandenburg had agreed with the US electric car maker on a longer period until January 15 to pay the missing security deposit, the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment announced on Wednesday. It s about 100 million euros that Tesla has to deposit for possible dismantling costs of Giga Berlin in case the final approval doesn t come for some reason.
