'Well used on weekends': Council quiet on paid parking facts

Premium Content Subscriber only Sunshine Coast Council has refused to reveal usage and financial figures from Mooloolaba s paid parking amid calls for a review on the charges. The fee was touted as the best way to pay off the loan of $23.5 million for the construction of the building, instead of adding $18 a year for 20 years to every ratepayer s bill. Questions from the Daily on how many cars used the Brisbane Road facility went unanswered but a spokesman said it was well used on weekends and during events. Councillor Christian Dickson said multiple residents and businesses had told him the carpark was near empty most days.

Sekisui papers: What we've learnt from approval revelations

Artist s impressions of Sekisui House s hotel and residential development at Yaroomba.   A hearing is due to take place next month. Development Watch Lyn Saxton earlier this month lamented the fact the revelations hadn t come out after the initial council approval, as they could ve launched a judicial review and sidestepped the costly process. She said she expected any issues raised with council processes would have to be dealt with separately, not as part of the ongoing legal case. The revelations: Within the thousands of pages released was an email trail which revealed council planning assessment officers had been preparing to recommend refusal of the billion-dollar development just weeks before it was eventually recommended for, and granted approval by councillors in June, 2018.
